The slow island: shooting Lightwater Cove

An oceanfront farm on Salt Spring Island's quiet south end, where breakfast is grown on the property and the ferry schedule is the only deadline. I brought cameras to a place designed for putting them down.

About Lightwater Cove

Lightwater Cove is an oceanfront guesthouse and working farm on the south end of Salt Spring Island, at 301 King Road, with four rooms and suites — the Archipelago Room, Wheelhouse Suite, Magnolia Terrace and Maple Terrace. Breakfast is made from eggs and produce grown on the property and from other island farms, and is included. The grounds run to botanical gardens with waterfalls and lily ponds, a greenhouse, a library, a hot tub and sauna, and a private sand beach, which is rare on this coastline. A spa operates on site with massage and facials booked separately from the room. Children aged ten and over are accepted and there is a two-night minimum. Getting there is by BC Ferries or floatplane; you will want a car once on the island.
